Community Awareness through Portland, Oregon

As a small educational project here at Portland State University, one of our aims is to increase awareness of other community organizations who have similar aims as our own.

Did you know that at NW 18th and Kearney, we have our very own Oregon Holocaust Resource Center? This is headed up by Director Sonia Marie Leikam, an educator trained by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Yad Vashem AND a member of the HGS Project Advisory board!

We also have The Oregon Peace Institute whose mission statement is

To promote and make available education and resources for peace and nonviolent conflict resolution in individual, community, national, global and environmental contexts. We seek the widest possible collaboration and cooperation with others to achieve our purpose.

The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization‘s mission is to promote the integration of refugees, immigrants, and the community at large into a self-sufficient, healthy, and inclusive multiethnic society.

About The Holocaust and Genocide Studies Project at PSU

We are part of the Portland State Public Humanities Program. Our goal is to educate, inform and share knowledge about past and present genocides around the globe.
